Julia Hatamyar, Biography

Julia Hatamyar is excited to bring her philosophy of teaching to the Pianoforte School this semester. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree of Music in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music, graduating with distinction, and her high school diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she graduated with honors. She began teaching at the age of 14, and has taught beginning and intermediate students professionally during her high-school and college careers. She has also been accompanying professionally since a young age, working at institutions such as the Interlochen Arts Camp, and Oklahoma City University.

Under the tutelage of Barry Snyder at the Eastman School, Julia developed her own unique vision of the piano and it’s capabilities, which is founded on a philosophy of open-mindedness, patience, and genuine effort. This philosophy is reflected in Julia’s pedagogical method. Rather than strictly following a general format or universal lesson plan, Julia strives to create lessons that are as individual as her students. “I like to really get to know my student musically in order to tailor what they will learn to their own personality. Some methods and tools work well with some people, but not others. Once I know how a student learns, what they respond to, and what reaches them musically, then I can teach them in the way that they will learn best.”

Julia’s concert appearances include solo recitals in Oklahoma City and Rochester, NY and recital appearances at Anderson Hall in Wolfeboro, NH, and in Glasgow, Scotland. She has attended such festivals as the Interlochen Arts Camp, the International Piano Festival in Glasgow, and the Heifetz Institute. She was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, and at the Glasgow International Piano Competition. Former teachers include Barry Snyder, Rose Grace, and Thomas Lymenstull. She has also worked with Victor Rosenbaum, Natalya Antonova, Thomas Lanners, John Levin, Martino Tirimo, Rudolf Meister, Philip Jenkins, and Claudia Carroll.
